Goodbye Sore Thumbs. Hello…?
By Shoe
If you listened to any of my recent blabbermouthing on the Drunken Gamers podcast or The Big O and Dukes Show, you may have gotten wind of a new project that I’m working on with some other ex-EGM/1UP guys. Well, here’s an official update for you:
I’m working on a new project with some other ex-EGM/1UP guys!
You may remember Demian Linn, former executive producer of The 1UP Show and GameVideos.com (as well as a former EGM editor). He’s my primary business partner in this new venture (and I can’t wait to see him writing again, cause he’s one of the best). Also former senior writer/news editor/Quartermann Michael Donahoe is on our team. And ex-managing editor Greg Ford. My best buddy in the world Crispin Boyer is also contributing in a variety of ways. A few other people are working with us behind the scenes, like Karen Chu, former art star at 1UP.com, and a guy who used to be a big-time tech master at Facebook. We have a few more superstars lined up (some I can’t mention yet), and we’re also planning on teaming up with a bunch of other ex-Ziffers who are working on their own things, like Ryan Scott, Andrew Fitch, Andrew Pfister, and more.
These are some of the best, most talented people that I know. They were part of the teams that made EGM, CGW, and 1UP so good, so I’m super honored to be working with some of them again.
I don’t have much else to tell you now other than to stay tuned. We’re in the process of looking for angel investors to help us kick this off (boy, did we pick one crappy time in our economy to be asking investors for access to their Scrooge McDuck’s vaults of gold), but we may be launching a bare-bones, scaled-down prototype within a month. At that time, Sore Thumbs Blog will officially go away, but this URL will roll right into our new project, where you’ll still find me blogging about the same nonsense I’ve been blogging about here, but now with the regularity that would make an elderly man’s digestive system proud. And depending on Crispin’s schedule, he’ll be blogging on there as well (he’s been pretty busy lately, so he’s been quiet on the Sore Thumbs front, but maybe if you all tell him how much you miss him in the comments…).
So if you know any really rich people who would like to see a bunch of ex-EGM and 1UP guys get a new project off the ground, we could sure use the help! And by the way, this will be a legitimate, revenue-producing business, not just a for-fun thing like Sore Thumbs was. Hell, we even have a nice PowerPoint presentation, Excel spreadsheets…the works! A link to our email address is in the header up top.
In the meantime, we’re taking some of the donations that you guys have given us to help pay for some of the initial costs that are coming out of our own pockets (legal fees, hosting, servers, etc.). Honestly, I felt really weird putting that button up there at first, but I have to thank a bunch of you for your support and for pushing me to do it. I honestly wouldn’t have put that donate button up (or the ads for that matter) without your insistence.
Specifically, thanks to these guys for their support and for their contributions, big or small:
- JRSherrod
- ATC_1982
- Andrew Burwell
- Blake Snow
- Raymond Padilla
- Sergio M.
- John S, Jr.
- Dexter S.
- Michael R.
- William F.
- And a very, very generous Mr. Anonymous
- And more!
We really hope you stay tuned. Any momentum here on Sore Thumbs (whether that’s traffic or revenue from donations or just general awareness) will really help us with this new site.
And by the way, until this new thing kicks off, we’ll still be updating Sore Thumbs whenever possible with the same nonsense you’ve grown to love or hate or hate.
P.S. Crispin and I are planning to have a Denny’s dinner soon, thanks to some of the earlier contributions from before I asked for help on the new project on The Big O and Dukes Show. We’re going to attempt to record a discussion between us over this dinner, and we’ll throw that up for your listening non-pleasure. It’s not a podcast exactly, but it’s…it’s…well, I’m not sure what it is, actually. More of that Sore Thumbs nonsense, I suppose.
P.P.S. Please join our Facebook page for more updates direct from me.
